Two Offerings…Only One Accepted

By James Quitoriano

Cain and Abel are a case study to understand the meaning of faith. We can read this in Genesis 4:1-5. Both brothers made an offering to God but only one was accepted. Therefore, it merits the question, why?

In Hebrews 11:4, we read that Abel offered by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God. Therefore, Cain could not please God or his offering was not accepted because it was done without faith.

What is faith? Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This same faith was illustrated in James 2:14-26. Faith is a conviction concerning God’s Word that moves man to obey it. Thus, some people call this an “obedient faith”. How then do we get faith? In Romans 10:17, we can read the answer to this question: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The two offerings represent two types of worshippers in today’s society. First, those who believe God’s Word and seek to obey it exactly as given. Second, those who seek to worship God according to their own opinions and traditions and expect God to accept it.

In Mark 7:6-13, it reads,

6 “He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men-the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.” 9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

Let us make sure that as we worship God it is done by faith and according to His Written Word!

Science and the Bible

by James H. Quitoriano

The Bible is not a science book but it does reveal many scientific facts many years ahead before these facts were discovered by man.

For example, in Isaiah 40:22, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth. And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” The passage speaks of the “circle” of the earth more than 2000 years before men discovered that the earth was round.

Another example is Psalm 8:8, “The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.” Here it speaks of the “paths of the sea” many hundreds of years before men discovered the currents flowing in the oceans. Today, ocean liners follow these currents to make it easier and cheaper to cross the ocean.

Third example, we can read in Leviticus 17:11, 14, “11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ 14 for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life. Therefore I said to the children of Israel, ‘You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.’” Moses wrote, “life is in the blood”. This fact has been discovered by medical science only within the past few hundred years.

Many more scientific facts can be found that were recorded in the Bible many years before they were discovered by man which would show that the Bible could not have originated with man and must have originated with God.

CHALLENGES

I would like to offer TWO CHALLENGES in sharing the gospel so that we can GROW COLLECTIVELY as a congregation and PERSONALLY as individual Christian:

CHALLENGE 1 : COLLECTIVELY AS A CONGREGATION:

1. NEIGHBORHOOD VISITATION AND GOSPEL SHARING ALL YEAR ROUND

2. NEIGHBORHOOD BOOK LAUNCHING

 3. NEIGHBORHOOD WE CARE EVANGELISM CAMPAIGN & WORKSHOP INVITING JON ROWE AND/OR STEVEN PRINE AS PRESENTORS – (Binalonan Church of Christ, in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines, my first home congregation when I was “babe” in Christ, hosted the WE CARE Evangelism Campaign & Workshop last February this year before the COVID-19 lockdown. More than 40 precious souls initially obeyed the gospel in baptism. Members kept on sharing the gospel using the We CARE Approach. Today the number of active members more than doubled (150 plus) and growing all year round. I challenge the GOLDEN GATE CHURCH OF CHRIST and the sister congregations in California and other states to follow the example of the BINALONAN CHURCH OF CHRIST by hosting a weekend WE CARE Evangelism Campaign & Workshop).

 4. NEIGHBORHOOD POWER POINT GOSPEL PRESENTATION WEEKLY OR MONTHLY USING THE ONE PREPARED BY OUR SIS. DEBORAH Q. MARCOS

CHALLENGE 2: PERSONALLY AS INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIAN
  1. Write a list of 7 or more prospects from among Your FRANC (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, Co-Workers) for gospel sharing all year round
  2. Share copies of “HISTORICITY OF JESUS” and “JESUS CHRIST” as gifts all year round (e.g. Birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries, Graduation, Christmas, Etc.)

If you want to receive a copy of the “Historicity of Jesus” and “Jesus Christ” please fill-up this form.

  1. Invite prospects to our Gospel Presentations and in our Worship Services
  2. Join and watch evangelistic programs like Angel Radio, In Search of the Lord’s Way together with friends and relatives all year round. (My wife and I had been watching the evangelistic program Angel Radio through Facebook every morning 8-9:30 am Monday to Friday for a few months now. Angel Radio is anchored by Bro. Ed Bacani, now Evangelist with the UNIVERSITY CHURCH OF CHRIST in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Angel Radio has a Hispanic speaker, an African-American speaker, a Caucasian speaker, and guests like young members of AIM (Adventures in Missions) from the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) in Lubbock, Texas. After just one year of anniversary, Angel Radio is now participated and watched globally with brethren and friends from Hongkong, Canada, Middle East, Far East,  Nepal, Philippines, California, Washington D.C., Texas, Maryland, and other states.  Sister Dholly Jale from Washington, D.C. invited her friend Marlyn Mendoza from Maryland to join and watched Angel Radio with her. Last Thursday morning, Marlyn Mendoza (a Roman Catholic) and her son Javier decided to obey the gospel in baptism after a few weeks of joining and watching the message of Bro. Ed Bacani in Angel Radio. I challenge our brethren at Golden Gate and the other sister congregations to follow the example of Sis. Dholly.  Join and watched Angel Radio together with your friends regularly.)
  3. Pray regularly without ceasing that the Holy Spirit will touch and move your prospects

Remember, the late Evangelist Jule Miller said: “Every Christian MUST be a soul-winner.”  The Bible says, “All who win souls are wise.”  (Proverbs 11:30, Living Bible)

Non-western Christians

This is an interesting post from Bobby Valentine. Read the rest of the article here.

For two thousand years, Christianity has flourished in places that are rarely associated with Christ-followers by Americans today. The Way, or Christianity, already existed in Damascus (Syria) before Saul of Tarsus was called to be an apostle. Disciples of Jesus were in Antioch (also in Syria) before Saul/Paul was called. This form of Christianity knew Greek but its native language was Aramaic/Syriac. It was Jewish or “Oriental” in orientation. These disciples of the Way have basically the same books of the Bible that Western Christians had (their “Old Testament” usually contains what Protestants call the Apocrypha and the books of the NT). These Christians sometimes expressed their faith in ways that may help us in the West.

Grow by Sharing the Gospel

By Art Madlaing

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:18-20 Mark 16:15-16

GREETINGS:  HAPPY SUNDAY! I would like to thank Bro. James Quitoriano for scheduling me to share a message on Grow by Sharing the Gospel to celebrate my 73rd Birthday today and for preparing the PowerPoint Presentation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, we can’t meet at the church building but have this Virtual Worship Services. The COVID-19 lockdown is a blessing in disguise for me because I was able to invite brethren and friends from the Philippines, Canada, Hongkong, and from several states like California, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, and other states to join us today for like a global Virtual Worship Services.

INTRODUCTION: Last month, I received sketches of the WE CARE Gospel presentation of Mark John Distor, a young Evangelist with WE CARE Ministries Philippines who my wife and I are partly supporting financially every month. He is now working in the Lord’s vineyard in the province of Isabela, Cagayan Valley and vicinities in the Philippines.

In the first sketch, he showed the word BIBLE in bold letters, as acronym of Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.” YES, the Gospel, in its purity and simplicity, is the basic information every alien sinner must know, understand and obey before leaving this earth. It is, therefore, imperative that every Christian and every congregation must fulfill the Great Commission by sharing the gospel in its purity and simplicity. Preachers from various denominations are adding and subtracting from the Word of God and are preaching different gospel. (to save time please read our Scripture Reading verses in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-16 and Revelation 22:18-19, Galatians 1:6-8

WHY SHARE THE GOSPEL?

Millions are dying, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic without knowing, understanding and obeying the gospel.  Bro. Marcus Dancer explained in his message last Sunday that we must prepare, learn and have the skill and take or use every opportunity to share the gospel to every alien sinner because it is the power of God to salvation (read Romans 1:16). THE REAL TRAGEDY IS NOT THAT WE DIE WITH COVID-19; THE REAL TRAGEDY IS IF WE DIE WITHOUT JESUS BECAUSE WE DIDN’T KNOW, UNDERSTAND AND OBEY THE GOSPEL. (read Matthew 10:28, Revised Standard; and Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, King James)

 HISTORICAL FACTS OF THE GOSPEL

The Gospel is simply the historical facts on the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus (please read  1 Corinthians 15:1-4) which can never be denied by agnostics, atheists or unbelievers. The apostles and early disciples were eyewitnesses to these historical facts.

WHY OBEY THE GOSPEL?

Apostle Paul gave warning on why every alien sinner must obey the gospel in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 as follows: “To give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with eternal destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.”

HOW TO OBEY THE GOSPEL

On the Day of Pentecost, Peter first shared the gospel to a big crowd in Jerusalem. Many were touched and cut to the heart and asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”  Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  (Acts 2:37-38, NKJV) Paul also mentioned in Romans 6:3-4 how to obey the gospel: “Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into His death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life.”  (read also Acts 22:16, NKJV)
