As a former Roman Catholic during my elementary grades, a former Methodist during my high school years, a former agnostic during my college years at the University of the Philippines, and now a plain Christian and active Evangelist with the GOLDEN CHURCH OF CHRIST in San Francisco; I would like to personally invite and encourage  our agnostic and atheist friends, our Roman Catholic friends, our Methodist friends; our Baptist friends, our Adventist friends, our Lutheran friends, our  Mormon friends our INC friends, our Jehovah’s Witnesses friends, our born again friends and friends from all other denominations to  seriously search the Scriptures daily like  the noble Christians in Berea (read Acts 17:11)

I earnestly plead with our friends from the various denominations to seriously obey and follow the invitation of Peter when he first preached the gospel on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem and those who heard the gospel asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?:, Peter answered, “Repent and  let every one of you be baptized  in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins; and you’ll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (read Acts 2:37-38

I also earnestly plead with our friends from the various denominations to seriously obey and follow the invitation of Ananias through Paul when he said “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized and wash away your sins calling on the name of the Lord,” (read Acts 22:16

Finally, I earnestly plead with our friends to seriously obey and follow what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said: “He who believed and is baptized will be saved.” (read Mark 16:16

Remember what I said earlier: “The real tragedy is not that we die with COVID-19; the real tragedy  is if we die WITHOUT JESUS  because we didn’t know, understand and obey the gospel.”

Jesus Christ said: Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28).

The wisest King Solomon concluded, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”( Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

Today my friends, you have the opportunity to obey the gospel in baptism before it’s too late. You can do it now, come trust and obey as we sing the invitation song “TRUST AND OBEY.”

*Message delivered by ART GABOT MADLAING during the Virtual Worship Services at the GOLDEN GATE CHURCH OF CHRIST in San Francisco, California last Sunday, August 16, 2020, to celebrate his 73rd Birthday. The same message was published in his column “HEALTH & WEALTH” (two-part series) in the weekly Philippine News Today as evangelism and outreach to the Filipino and Asian communities.

bookmark_borderTwo Offerings…Only One Accepted

By James Quitoriano

Cain and Abel are a case study to understand the meaning of faith. We can read this in Genesis 4:1-5. Both brothers made an offering to God but only one was accepted. Therefore, it merits the question, why?

In Hebrews 11:4, we read that Abel offered by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God. Therefore, Cain could not please God or his offering was not accepted because it was done without faith.

What is faith? Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This same faith was illustrated in James 2:14-26. Faith is a conviction concerning God’s Word that moves man to obey it. Thus, some people call this an “obedient faith”. How then do we get faith? In Romans 10:17, we can read the answer to this question: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The two offerings represent two types of worshippers in today’s society. First, those who believe God’s Word and seek to obey it exactly as given. Second, those who seek to worship God according to their own opinions and traditions and expect God to accept it.

In Mark 7:6-13, it reads,

6 “He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men-the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.” 9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

Let us make sure that as we worship God it is done by faith and according to His Written Word!

by James H. Quitoriano

The Bible is not a science book but it does reveal many scientific facts many years ahead before these facts were discovered by man.

For example, in Isaiah 40:22, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth. And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” The passage speaks of the “circle” of the earth more than 2000 years before men discovered that the earth was round.

Another example is Psalm 8:8, “The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.” Here it speaks of the “paths of the sea” many hundreds of years before men discovered the currents flowing in the oceans. Today, ocean liners follow these currents to make it easier and cheaper to cross the ocean.

Third example, we can read in Leviticus 17:11, 14, “11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ 14 for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life. Therefore I said to the children of Israel, ‘You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.’” Moses wrote, “life is in the blood”. This fact has been discovered by medical science only within the past few hundred years.

Many more scientific facts can be found that were recorded in the Bible many years before they were discovered by man which would show that the Bible could not have originated with man and must have originated with God.

I would like to offer TWO CHALLENGES in sharing the gospel so that we can GROW COLLECTIVELY as a congregation and PERSONALLY as individual Christian:

 3. NEIGHBORHOOD WE CARE EVANGELISM CAMPAIGN & WORKSHOP INVITING JON ROWE AND/OR STEVEN PRINE AS PRESENTORS – (Binalonan Church of Christ, in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines, my first home congregation when I was “babe” in Christ, hosted the WE CARE Evangelism Campaign & Workshop last February this year before the COVID-19 lockdown. More than 40 precious souls initially obeyed the gospel in baptism. Members kept on sharing the gospel using the We CARE Approach. Today the number of active members more than doubled (150 plus) and growing all year round. I challenge the GOLDEN GATE CHURCH OF CHRIST and the sister congregations in California and other states to follow the example of the BINALONAN CHURCH OF CHRIST by hosting a weekend WE CARE Evangelism Campaign & Workshop).

  1. Write a list of 7 or more prospects from among Your FRANC (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, Co-Workers) for gospel sharing all year round
  2. Share copies of “HISTORICITY OF JESUS” and “JESUS CHRIST” as gifts all year round (e.g. Birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries, Graduation, Christmas, Etc.)

If you want to receive a copy of the “Historicity of Jesus” and “Jesus Christ” please fill-up this form.

  1. Invite prospects to our Gospel Presentations and in our Worship Services
  2. Join and watch evangelistic programs like Angel Radio, In Search of the Lord’s Way together with friends and relatives all year round. (My wife and I had been watching the evangelistic program Angel Radio through Facebook every morning 8-9:30 am Monday to Friday for a few months now. Angel Radio is anchored by Bro. Ed Bacani, now Evangelist with the UNIVERSITY CHURCH OF CHRIST in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Angel Radio has a Hispanic speaker, an African-American speaker, a Caucasian speaker, and guests like young members of AIM (Adventures in Missions) from the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) in Lubbock, Texas. After just one year of anniversary, Angel Radio is now participated and watched globally with brethren and friends from Hongkong, Canada, Middle East, Far East,  Nepal, Philippines, California, Washington D.C., Texas, Maryland, and other states.  Sister Dholly Jale from Washington, D.C. invited her friend Marlyn Mendoza from Maryland to join and watched Angel Radio with her. Last Thursday morning, Marlyn Mendoza (a Roman Catholic) and her son Javier decided to obey the gospel in baptism after a few weeks of joining and watching the message of Bro. Ed Bacani in Angel Radio. I challenge our brethren at Golden Gate and the other sister congregations to follow the example of Sis. Dholly.  Join and watched Angel Radio together with your friends regularly.)
  3. Pray regularly without ceasing that the Holy Spirit will touch and move your prospects

Remember, the late Evangelist Jule Miller said: “Every Christian MUST be a soul-winner.”  The Bible says, “All who win souls are wise.”  (Proverbs 11:30, Living Bible)
